Case Studies

To examine the on-the-ground experience of those participating in collaborative planning on state trust lands, the research team selected eight cases. These cases span seven western states and a range of issues including land use planning in urban and rural settings and land management for oil, gas, ranching, forestry, open space conservation, and watershed management. For some, collaboration involved multi-stakeholder advisory committees; others involved informal interactions and negotiations. The case studies ranged in duration from one year to more than 20 years.
