Demonstrating Your Commitment to Diversity
We invite you all to attend a workshop that Rebeca Villegas is co-facilitating in partnership with Rackham Graduate School and representatives from the National Wildlife Federation. The environmental and conservation movement is evolving to be more representative of constituents and changing demographics as a means of creating a more inclusive movement that has the power to combat environmental concerns. Such realizations and initiatives are also taking place across employers in other disciplines. Many diversity, equity and inclusion efforts are becoming institutionalized among organizations, agencies and funding institutions in a variety of ways. One of these efforts are modifying hiring procedures to ensure that future employees are able to communicate across identities, collaborate among multiple stakeholders and are able to cultivate innovative and strategic means of public support. In order to ensure that graduate students across the University of Michigan are prepared to both provide and appropriately articulate these highly desired aptitude needs, they have developed a workshop to provide tools and resources. This workshop will provide a brief background as to why these efforts are important, along with further insight on how organizations are modifying hiring processes to ensure that candidates are able to compete in an evolving job market.
