SEAS and PitE graduates from December 2017, Winter 2018, and Summer 2018 are invited to participate in SEAS ceremony at Rackham Auditorium.

We are proud to welcome Andy Buchsbaum as our commencement speaker. Mr. Buchsbaum is Vice President for One Federation, the National Wildlife Federation’s initiative to deepen and grow partnerships between the central organization and its 51 affiliated state and territorial conservation organizations. He is also an adjunct professor at the Michigan Law School. 

Students must arrive between 12-12:15 pm for check in. Doors open for guests at 12:30 pm. Tickets are not required, but we ask that you bring no more than 4 guests so we have room for everyone. Join us immediately following the ceremony for light refreshments from Zingerman's in Palmer Commons, Great Lakes Room (4th floor). All are welcome!

SEAS Master's and PhD students:

Pre-Graduation Check-In, in OAP, March 26th through April 6th 11-1pm:

  • Students can pick up their graduation gift
  • Complete the  Student Survey
  • Provide your loved ones’ address(es) so they can receive a personal invitation to Commencement
  • Leave a video testimonial about your time in SEAS!

Commencement Day, Check-In Procedures:

  • Students must arrive between 12:00-12:15 pm and check in at registration tables
  • Auditorium doors will open for guests at 12:30 pm
  • Students will begin to line up at 12:50 pm
  • Procession begins at 1 pm

Printed Commencement Program: Students who apply for graduation in Wolverine Access by Monday, March 5, will be included in the SEAS commencement program.

Special Seating: To request special seating accommodations, email by Monday, April 16.

Academic Attire: All graduating students are required to dress in full academic attire. Academic attire can be purchased at various Ann Arbor locations. A limited number of graduate gowns, caps and hoods are also available to borrow from SEAS student government on a first come, first served basis.   SEAS Student Government will have a table in the Ford commons from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Monday 4/2-Thursday 4/5 and Monday 4/9 - Thursday 4/12 for graduating master's and Ph.D. students to borrow robes, hoods, and mortarboards. These will be handed out on a first-come, first-serve basis. Student Government is suggesting a $15 donation toward the class gift for borrowing the robes. Register for SEAS Ceremony: If you plan to attend our commencement, please take 5 minutes to submit the Photography Registration Form no later than Friday, April 20. Data will be printed onto a Name Card that you will pick up at registration tables the day of the ceremony. You will hand the card to the reader before crossing the stage, as it contains the phonetic spelling of your name.

Name Pronunciation Help: In addition to the phonetic spelling on the Name Card, a voice recorder will be available for use in OAP (1520 Dana) from March 26th through April 6th for you to record the proper pronunciation of your name. This additional step is an optional opportunity to clarify name pronunciation.

Photography: Call Photography is the official SEAS photographer. They will be taking individual photos of each student as they cross the stage. Students will also be asked to participate in a class group photo on the front steps of Rackham following the ceremony. Call Photography will send you an email within a week after the ceremony with links to your personal images, class group image, and coupon for 10% off your order. To ensure proper delivery of messages to your inbox, add to your email contacts.

Parking: Free parking is available in all U-M parking structures on April 28. Parking structures have limited availability and fill up quickly, so please plan extra time to find a parking spot or use public transportation to arrive on time.
