John’s work at SEAS mostly focuses on coordinating and developing curriculum for the Sustainability and Development Initiative. He is currently in the process of creating a massive open online course (MOOC) on "Addressing the Greatest Challenges of Sustainability and Development". Beyond that, his research interests focus on the conditions of an ecological philosophy of education, which he situates at the confluence of educational theory and the environmental humanities. While he does not draw on quantitative methods too often, he does have experience employing qualitative methods (e.g. interviewing, participant observation, etc.) and especially those methods traditional to the disciplines in the humanities like philosophy and history.
