This seminar will introduce and critically discuss theories about human experience of landscapes, drawn from social science, design, and philosophy of aesthetics. It will focus on how aesthetic experiences may affect human well-being, ecosystem services, and sustainability of landscapes, and it will ask students to consider how these effects could inform ecological design and planning interventions in cities, transportation systems, and rural areas.
