Planet in Peril: Averting Climate Catastrophe Through Law and Social Change

Event Date:
Thursday, April 11, 2019, 4:00 pm

Featured Speaker: Dean Jonathan Overpeck
Reception at 5:30 PM in Jeffries Lounge

We are delighted to welcome Jonathan Overpeck, the inaugural dean of the School for Environment and Sustainability at the University of Michigan, who will speak for the first time at the Law School to put our climate challenges in context. He will review the most recent scientific assessments and climate modelling and explain what they reveal about climate change that already is occurring and what they demand in terms of climate change mitigation and resiliency efforts. With climate change accelerating and the window for climate change mitigation and adaptation narrowing, this year's entire conference will be devoted to how the legal system can promote meaningful action on climate change and broad-based environmental sustainability efforts.

The full conference schedule is attached and can also be found at law.umich.edu/elpp - check out the amazing line up of speakers and panelists for the event! You don't have to attend the entire conference to participate - but we hope that you will join us for what you can!

Location:

Jeffries Lounge, Jeffries Hall 1220
