MIT is closing in early on their 32% carbon reduction by 2030 goal and strategically evaluating options to be “climate positive” through a portfolio of large-scale carbon reduction initiatives, as well as creating a living lab experience and providing generous subsidies for low-carbon commuting to engage the entire campus in their process. OSU is on track to become carbon neutral as early as 2030. UI is to become coal-free in energy production by 2025, if not sooner. OSU and IU entered into public-private partnerships that provided 100% of the financing for energy projects and provided upfront cash payments exceeding $1 billion to each institution that is being used for a wide variety of projects on campus, including academics.
