About
Catherine Riseng, PhD, is an Emerita Associate Research Scientist and served as the Research Program Manager and Interim Director of Michigan Sea Grant. She is an aquatic ecologist with a specific focus on fluvial ecosystems and benthic invertebrate ecology. Her work has included landscape-based models of riverine condition using biological indicators and regression-based models that predicted expected condition for rivers of Michigan as well as across the U.S. She has also led the development of a large geo-spatial database and classification framework, the Great Lakes Aquatic Habitat Framework, currently supported by the Great lakes Fishery Commission. She retired in 2021 but continues to have advisory roles on student committees and review panels.
