Jung F. Koral, Associate Director of Enrollment Services: Hello. I'm Jung Koral, Associate Director for Enrollment Services at the School for Environment and Sustainability at the University of Michigan. Many students ask my advice about the application process, documents, different things that they need to submit to be a competitive applicant. So in this video, I'm more than happy to share with you some advice and some tips based on my experience in this position and to help you to become a more competitive applicant.
The formal components to this application process include an online application housed within the Rackham Graduate School, your undergraduate transcripts, standardized test scores, three letters of recommendation, and a written personal statement accompanied by an academic statement of purpose.
Our applications undergo a holistic review process by a faculty review committee. Yes, undergraduate GPAS and standardized test scores are factored into those review decisions. And they are important. However, it's also important for a student to let us know their motivations for choosing this graduate program and what they hope to achieve post-graduation.
Other key elements of the application include the letters of recommendation. That allows us to read what other people have to say about you and your abilities to be successful within the graduate program.
Two more things: Students apply to this program from a variety of different academic backgrounds and disciplines. At last check, students enter our program with over 100 different academic backgrounds. Secondly, there are no GPA or standardized test score cutoffs. And by that, I mean that there are no minimum scores that we will review.
Our admissions staff is eager to help you through the application process. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.
