EAS 581.001 - Evidence-based Practice in Environmental Education, Communication and Interpretation
This course equips students to evaluate and develop meaningful, evidence-based education and communication resources that address complex socio-environmental challenges such as climate change. Students will be introduced to research-informed practices for environmental education and communication across a variety of contexts, including formal education (K–12 and higher education), non-formal settings (nature centers, parks, community organizations), and public pedagogy (outreach to general audiences).
Through a critical examination of how instruction and discourse shape our understanding of the environment and influence individual and collective action, students will strengthen their ability to assess and implement effective educational and communication strategies. Building on key theories, the course emphasizes participatory, solution-oriented projects, enabling students to create and put into practice instructional materials and communication approaches tailored to their specific interests and professional goals.
