This 2-day course will introduce students to the beauty and power of R! By the end of the course, you will learn the basics of coding in R (e.g., how to load in data, how to clean datasets, how to create plots, and how to prepare your data for statistical analyses). You will also be introduced to basic concepts of coding (e.g., what is a vector, what is a list, how and why would I use loops and/or functions). This class is open to anyone who is interested in learning the basics of using R; it is important to note that we will not cover how to do statistics in R, since that is what is covered in EAS 538. 

Learning Mechanisms: (1) Short lectures, and (2) in-class tutorials/labs that students work through at their own pace. 

Note: This class is intended to be an un-intimidating and fun introduction to coding in R. Students will be required to participate in the full course, but will work through the materials at their own pace, and there will not be any out-of-class assignments; the final grade is satisfactory/unsatisfactory and will be based entirely on participation. For some students who might have some background in coding, it may be possible to work through all of the materials in the 2-days, but for others who are new to coding, it is encouraged to take your time and if that means that you don’t get through the more advanced topics, that’s completely fine! If you have any questions about whether or not this class is appropriate for you, please feel free to contact me (bcweeks@umich.edu).
