Description
This course addresses basic statistics with examples from a wide range of environment and sustainability subjects. The course will focus on classic statistical tests (hypothesis testing, t-tests, analysis of variance, correlation, and linear regression), descriptive statistics, sampling techniques, experimental design, and plotting data. The course is applied, meaning we will focus on when and why different statistical techniques should be used, rather than deriving the mathematical underpinnings of these techniques. A weekly lab will focus on implementing statistical tests using the open-source statistical package R. There are no prerequisites to take the class.
