  9. Ecosystem Science and Management Curriculum Navigator
A student talking to a potential employer

This Curriculum Navigator was created to help prepare you for a successful career in Ecosystem Science and Management (ESM). We recommend you take courses aligned with these three categories:

  1. Courses that provide specific knowledge of an ecosystem or group of organisms. Examples include:
    1. Fish biology/ecology
    2. Ecosystem ecology
    3. Biogeochemical cycling
    4. Woody plants/herbaceous flora
  2. Courses with a focus on management, project implementation and assessment. Examples include:
    1. Conservation biology
    2. Wildlife ecology and management
    3. Forest ecology and management
    4. Ecological risk and assessment
  3. Courses with a focus on analytical, technical and other skills. Examples include:
    1. GIS
    2. Negotiations
    3. Applied ecosystem modeling
    4. Remote sensing

To help give you a sense of some main career paths in ESM, we’ve mapped out some coursework paths a student could consider depending on their academic and/or professional backgrounds and career goals. These paths are entirely optional, and we always encourage students to consult with their faculty advisors when planning their coursework.
