Favorite Memory

The 100th anniversary campfire in 2003! It was fun to meet alumni and understand the significant environmental leadership the school has played since it was established.

Advice

Build a relationship with faculty members, as well as your peers, as they are leaders in the field and will be advocates for you long after you leave Ann Arbor.

Idol
I had several faculty at SNRE that inspired and supported my career path. From Steve Yaffee, who taught me powerful negotiation skills, including always knowing your BATNA, or how to craft a policy memo to a Legislator; to Michaela Zint who taught me the importance of evaluation and built on my early foundation of environmental education theory and practice; to Ray DeYoung, who introduced me to environmental psychology and pro-environmental behavior. Each of these professors provided me with tools I use in my professional life every day. They were extremely accessible, knowledgeable in their field of expertise, and of course are highly respected leaders.
