Monarch Wings: Art Exhibit and Reception
Art Exhibit and Reception for Monarch Wings: A Mother-Daughter Ecological Journey
Reception and Presentation for Esha Biswas's Master's Practicum
- 5 p.m. Reception begins
- 6 p.m. Esha Biswas's practicum presentation and brief Q&A
Over the past four years, SEAS student Esha Biswas has worked with the Freeman Environmental Education Center in Ann Arbor Public Schools to facilitate an ecological restoration plan for an experimental prairie planting, created and implemented interdisciplinary K12 curriculum (including building a collaborative outdoor sculpture with students), and wrote and illustrated a children's book about prairie restoration.
Monarch Wings is a collaborative exhibit and visual conversation between Esha's work for her master's practicum and her mother Boisali Biswas's artwork. Monarch butterflies have been a powerful source of inspiration for both mother and daughter's connection to the Anishinaabe land that they are guests on, and important symbols in their artistic and ecological practices. Monarchs tell stories of cross-continental migration, transformation, and ecological interdependence, themes which unite both Boisali's and Esha's artistic journeys.
Join us on Thursday, April 11, 2024 from 5-7 p.m. for a reception with light refreshments and interactive educational activities for all ages.
Esha's presentation for her practicum and a brief Q&A will take place at 6 p.m.
