Congratulations to Isabella (Izzy) Juliet Shehab, a master’s student at the U-M School for Environment and Sustainability (SEAS) who is the recipient of the Kenneth R. Brooks MLA Research Scholarship Award from the Landscape Architecture Foundation (LAF). She received a $5,000 award.
Shehab is pursuing a Master of Landscape Architecture and a Master of Science in Ecosystem Science and Management at SEAS. She is interested in learning about the intersection between humans and the environment. She explores ways in which nature-based solutions can alleviate urban environmental challenges like stormwater management. A graduate of Iowa State University where she studied global resource systems, her previous research has focused on urban forestry. In the future, Shehab hopes to continue her education in a doctoral study within the field of landscape architecture to conduct research that contributes to landscape architecture's support of equitable spaces that help communities thrive in the face of climate change.
LAF scholarship awards recognize leadership, reward superior student performance, support access and diversity, and assist students with unmet financial need.
For the 2022 scholarships season, LAF has awarded a total of $167,000 to 27 students. Winners were selected through a competitive process by juries made up of leaders in landscape architecture practice, academia, and industry.
