U-M team awarded grant to lead state’s maritime strategy development

The University of Michigan Center for Sustainable Systems (CSS) and U-M's Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering have been awarded a $199,993 grant from the State of Michigan to develop a Michigan maritime strategy focused on climate action.
Working with a wide array of stakeholders, U-M will develop a strategy and roadmap for decarbonization, sustainability, and environmental justice in the state's maritime sector, from commercial shipping to recreational boating and more.
The multidisciplinary project is led by U-M Associate Professor of Engineering Practice Thomas McKenney. SEAS Professor Greg Keoleian, co-director of CSS, is co-investigator of the project, with support from CSS' Geoff Lewis, Tim Wallington, and Shoshannah Lenski. The effort also will include a graduate student researcher from SEAS.
