Conservation and Management Planning for Livingston Land Conservancy (2015)
The Livingston Land Conservancy is a volunteer-run non-profit based in Brighton, Michigan, with the mission of preserving the unique natural areas and working farmland of Livingston County. The Conservancy has set a goal to attain accreditation from the Land Trust Alliance in the next 3-5 years. Part of the accreditation process includes written management plans for preserves, and a deliberate method for choosing new projects to pursue. To this end, I conducted site visits to their recent land acquisitions in order to inventory ecological characteristics, identify management issues, and develop management and restoration plans. I also designed a decision-making tool to be used for prioritizing new land purchases based on habitat quality.
