Sustainable Urban Redevelopment in Detroit (2010)
The purpose of this project is to create a generalized framework to inform sustainable revitalization and redevelopment of hard-hit urban areas. The team began by reviewing emerging standards and certifications and identifying critical components of sustainable development. This was followed by a survey of recent urban revitalization efforts across the United States to identify and highlight cutting-edge solutions to the broad array of common development issues. Armed with the results, the team then synthesized this material into best management practices. Working with the Jefferson East Business Association (JEBA), the group applied this framework to the Jefferson East neighborhood in Detroit and created a design and set of sustainable recommendations for community revitalization.
