Tools and Strategies for the Implementation of the Detroit Climate Strategy
Goals & Objectives:
Achieving the goals of the Detroit Climate Strategy will require strong and coordinated implementation from across the municipal, non-profit, businesses / industry and advocacy sectors. The Detroit Climate Strategy outlines key priority actions to achieve net zero by 2030 as a first phase. The second phase of the strategy requires the development of implementation tools and strategies to be deployed by all sectors. The goal of the master project is to deliver a set of tools and strategies for the implementation of the Detroit Climate Strategy, focused on adaptation and mitigation projects for the municipal and non-profit sectors.
Theoretical Justification, Social Benefit, or Significance:
This research will add capacity to the municipal and non-profit sectors by providing clear paths for implementation of the Climate Strategy. This work aims to accelerate the rate at which the actions get underway in Detroit.
Specific Activities & Duration:
- Review, study and benchmark tools and strategies to implement projects where City and Non-profits are project partners. (4 – 6 weeks)
- Review, study and benchmark tools and strategies to implement adaptation and mitigation projects where multiple city departments are the implementors. (4 – 6 weeks)
- Research and study Detroit communities (by census track) with high vulnerability indexes and develop community profiles per vulnerability. (City wide vulnerability analysis available)
- Develop operational processes and policy recommendations for City departments and non-
profits to implement adaptation and mitigation projects.
Integrative Approach:
This research will require various perspectives. The intention of the project will be to operationalize best practices and research in municipal operations. The project will also focus on educational materials that non-profit sectors can use to further inform the community they serve.
