Workplace Engagement around Stewardship and Recycling in a Healthcare Setting (2016)
This master’s project seeks to create recommendations for continuing employee engagement at Beaumont Health’s Royal Oak campus as their Green Officer Certification Program enters its fifth year. This team explored the progress that the hospital Green Team has made in creating awareness around environmental stewardship through a survey of employee attitudes, knowledge, and behaviors related to stewardship and recycling (N=294). The project applied the Community-Based Social Marketing framework of behavior change and other environmental literature to identify how the Green Team can best leverage its Green Officers and engaged non-Green Officers and increase its recycling rate. This project is significant because hospitals create enormous amount of waste where there are benefits from recycling in employee engagement, environmental health, and non-operating revenue.
