Amy Van Zanen
I am an environmental social scientist studying policy responses to water governance challenges. I am trained in both quantitative and qualitative methods and my research draws from the fields of political science, policy studies and environmental economics. Prior to coming to the University of Michigan, I worked in Washington, DC at several nonprofit organizations focused on effective government and good governance initiatives. When I am not reading about the Great Lakes for my research, you might find me enjoying their many beaches and tributaries.

My research explores how social-ecological systems adapt to climate-induced changes to the water cycle. I also am interested in how climate information influences policy decisions regarding water resources management. Current research projects include exploring Great Lakes governance systems and water footprinting of agricultural commodities grown in the arid western United States.
