Doug Glancy (1977-2017) worked to address climate change for nearly two decades. He began his career in the office of Senator Carl Levin (D-MI) where he covered environmental, climate, and energy issues. Believing bipartisan support for climate action would continue, Glancy returned to Ann Arbor in 2004 where he pursued studies at SNRE and Ross on corporate climate action.

After graduation, he worked at organizations providing companies and consumers with climate friendly solutions. Additionally, he fostered a healthier and more prosperous Michigan as a board member of the Michigan League of Conservation Voters. However, as the years passed, Glancy became increasingly frustrated with the lack of a broad and inclusive call for climate action. "Historically, the climate movement has been criticized by many as elitist and exclusionary,” Glancy said. “Tragically, the most vulnerable are already being impacted by the climate crisis. These individuals deserve a voice in the movement.”

In response, he returned to Washington D.C. where he founded the Climate Speakers Network (CSN). “The CSN seeks to play a small role in this effort by collaborating with partners from a variety of movements to engage, educate, and empower advocates who can expand the chorus of voices calling for action on climate,” Glancy said. In 2015, the CSN became part of vice President Gore’s Climate Reality Project.  Since then, the CSN has provided more than 2,000 individuals with the tools and training to share their knowledge about climate change — and how to solve it — with their neighbors and networks.

We were deeply saddened to learn that Glancy passed away in October 2017. His work in fostering advocates for climate change will live on as an important part of his tremendous legacy.
