Dr. Rosina Bierbaum has been named senior advisor to the newly formed Global Commission on Adaptation, led by former U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Bill & Melinda Gates
Foundation Co-Chair Bill Gates, and World Bank Group CEO Kristalina Georgieva.
The Commission will prepare a flagship research report, to be released in September 2019, which will foster a compelling, evidence-based and widely shared global understanding of the adaptation imperative. In parallel, the Commission will catalyze and guide several high-impact action tracks on urgent issue areas such as food security and rural livelihoods, infrastructure, and urban resilience. It will then facilitate a Year of Action to implement the recommendations from the flagship report and the action tracks.
The Global Center on Adaptation and World Resources Institute are the managing partners of the Commission, which also includes roughly a dozen convening countries, 25-30 commissioners, research partners, and senior advisors.
