Jon Allan, academic and research program officer at the University of Michigan School for Environment and Sustainability and advisor for the Obtawaing Biosphere Region, has been elected the new chair for the U.S. Biosphere Network (USBN).
The USBN is made up of 28 internationally recognized areas across the continental U.S., U.S. Caribbean, Alaska, and Hawai'i with the mission of fostering national and international connections among U.S. Biosphere Regions, facilitating their sharing of best practices, and supporting their work of connecting people and nature. The USBN Steering Committee provides leadership and guidance to help achieve the goals of the USBN and World Network of Biosphere Reserves.
Allan will guide the network for the next three years along with Kelly Cerialo Vice-Chair for Operations (Paul Smith College; Champlain Adirondack Biosphere Network), Melissa Bade, Vice-Chair for Planning (CDR Associates), Samuel Cuthell, USBN Youth Board of Directors (Golden Gate Biosphere Network), Deb Davidson (Center for Large Landscape Conservation), Brian Houseal (Chair Emeritus) and Cliff McCreedy (National Park Service – Federal Liaison).
