Jon Allan, senior academic and research program officer at the School for Environment and Sustainability, was appointed to the NOAA Science Advisory Board (SAB). Established in 1997, the SAB is the only Federal Advisory Committee with responsibility to advise the Under Secretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere on strategies for research, education, and the application of science to operations and information services. The SAB activities and advice provide necessary input to ensure NOAA science programs are of the highest quality and provide optimal support to resource management. The advice helps NOAA execute its mission to better understand and predict changes in the Earth’s environment and conserve and manage coastal and marine resources to meet the Nation’s economic, social, and environmental needs.
In addition to his NOAA appointment, Allan was reappointed for a three-year term to the Water Quality Board by the International Joint Commission.
