Congratulations to Vianey Rueda, who was selected to participate in the 2025 Christine Mirzayan Science and Technology Policy Graduate Fellowship Program from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine. The fellowship is a full-time, hands-on training and educational program that provides early-career individuals with the opportunity to spend 12 weeks in Washington, D.C., learning about science and technology policy and the role that scientists and engineers play in advising the nation.
Rueda, a third-year PhD student at the University of Michigan School for Environment and Sustainability (SEAS), will begin her fellowship in March 2025.
Her research is focused on the 1944 Water Treaty between the United States and Mexico and uses an interdisciplinary lens to find alternative water delivery mechanisms for the Rio Grande that reduce treaty non-compliance and protect community needs in the face of climate change. As part of her research, Rueda visits different areas of the Rio Grande. Vianey aspires to have a career in policy, either through advising or a political career of her own.
