School for Environment and Sustainability master's students Ashley Laukhuf, Kristin Armstrong, Nick Hansen, and Kyle Barnes were featured in an article in the Homer News about their master's project with the Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies in Homer, Alaska.
The students' project involves working with the center to better understand its Inspiration Ridge Preserve, a 690-acre protected area at the headwaters of the Fritz Creek and Anchor River watersheds.
According to the article, "doing an inventory of that watershed was one focus of the Michigan students’ field work. Kyle Barnes and Nick Hansen did water quality and stream studies. Hansen trapped fish, including Dolly Varden trout, to see which streams could support marine life. They also studied macroinvertebrates—anything that could be seen with the naked eye."
