Meet our Students

Endless Opportunities to Tailor Skills and Expertise

capstone team
The Capstone Conference is a celebration of graduate student research at SEAS that incorporates thesis, practicum and master's project student presentations.

University of Michigan School for Environment and Sustainability (SEAS) students study in one or more of eight programs, specializations, and fields of study. Download a course-planning document (PDF) for yours:

  • Behavior, Education, and Communication
  • Ecosystem Science and Management
  • Environmental Justice
  • Environmental Policy and Planning
  • Geospatial Data Sciences
  • Landscape Architecture (MLA)
  • Sustainability and Development
  • Sustainable Systems

Students have the opportunity to participate in an exciting interdisciplinary master's capstone project with members of their cohort. This dynamic model was the first of its kind in the nation. Today, these client-based projects continue to have a real impact and teach invaluable applied skills to the teams involved. The experiential learning-focused master's project is the standard capstone experience for our students. However, some SEAS students obtain approval for alternative options such as a thesis.
