Favorite Memory

Teaching “Woody Plants” as a graduate student, and mid-way through the semester, having a student (who couldn’t tell a maple from an oak before) rush up before class and ask excitedly, “Guess what I saw over the weekend?!?”

Advice

It takes about ten years to really become expert in something. So dig into a field or a problem that is relevant to you in a meaningful way, and follow it through, making as many creative connections as you can.
