SEAS advisor is an international business expert

Image

Martin "Marty" D. Cargas is a senior advisor in the food and agriculture practice at McLarty Associates, an international government relations and strategic business consulting firm located in Washington, D.C. McLarty represents multinational companies and organizations that have issues outside of the United States with a particular emphasis on Latin America and developing markets.

Cargas was formerly vice president of government and environmental affairs for Anheuser-Busch International, Inc., the international beer subsidiary of Anheuser-Busch Companies. He represented Anheuser-Busch before all levels of government across the world and helped the company expand its operations in critical overseas markets including China and India. He managed a network of regional and local consultants and oversaw and executed complex strategies across a broad spectrum, including food and beverage, intellectual property, and investment and regulatory issues.

Cargas joined Anheuser-Busch in 1991 as associate general counsel. Prior to his career in international relations, he practiced environmental and corporate law in St. Louis. Over the past seven years, Cargas has taken on an advisory role within SEAS. “The interactions with current students during my years on the SEAS Visiting Committee, now the External Advisory Board, have been very inspiring,” he said. “SEAS students are so bright and motivated.”

Cargas is also a board member of the U.S.-China Education Trust and a frequent lecturer at local universities. He is an Ann Arbor native, and holds a law degree from Hofstra University, as well as a master’s degree in International Business Studies from St. Louis University.
