Congratulations to the University of Michigan Fishing team, which recently took second place in the College Bass Tour Championship in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan! This is the first time the team made it to the finals after a four-year hiatus. The team included U-M students Brady Bush (College of Engineering); Spencer White and Michael Tieves (College of Literature, Science, and the Arts); and Josh Tucker (Ross School of Business).
The Michigan Fishing club is housed in the U-M School for Environment and Sustainability (SEAS). Marc Gaden, an adjunct assistant professor at SEAS, is the club's faculty advisor. The club draws students from throughout U-M who are interested in angling and community service.
In addition to the recent competition, club members spent the summer volunteering with the Great Lakes Fishery Commission at outdoor events and festivals to educate people about the organization and about invasive species, particularly sea lamprey control. The club also has an arrangement with the City of Ann Arbor to volunteer at city events such as kids' fishing day and river/park cleanups.
