The Center for Sustainable Systems (CSS) at the University of Michigan School for Environment and Sustainability (SEAS) has released its 2026 collection of factsheets, covering sustainability topics ranging from energy and mobility to food and water.

The updated collection includes 34 factsheets featuring more than 2,000 facts compiled from over 1,300 sources, including an expanded AI factsheet with a new title, Artificial Intelligence and Data Centers Factsheet, which reflects its expanded focus on data centers.

In addition, the factsheets include 144 graphics, 34 of which are new, with improved online interactivity. Simply mouse over or click on the charts and maps to explore the graphics and see more detailed information. 

“The factsheets are a leading resource that cover impacts, trends and sustainability solutions to inform and motivate students, households, communities, businesses and policymakers to take action,” said Greg Keoleian, CSS co-director. “The 34 topics that span the built environment, climate change, energy, food systems, material resources, mobility, sustainability indicators and water provide valuable data and guidance for advancing sustainability.”

The factsheets, which are viewed over 500,000 times annually, are updated every summer and present data on patterns of use, life cycle impacts and sustainable solutions. Updated this year by SEAS master’s students Noel Boland (MS ’27) and Jacob Cieply (MS/MEng ’27) and supervised by CSS Research Specialist Geoff Lewis, the collection is provided as a free public resource.

At a time when access to accurate facts matters more than ever, those interested in supporting the ongoing development of future factsheets may consider donating to the Fund the Facts campaign. Contributions will help expand and update the factsheets by supporting the graduate student interns who work on them throughout the year.
