How to Apply

An undergraduate transcript from an accredited institution with a 2.5 minimum cumulative GPA. If you have an official copy of your transcript, please upload it. If you do not, then an unofficial copy will suffice, and an official copy will be requested upon admission. Review Transcript/Academic Record upload requirements.

Your Statement of Purpose should be a concise, well-written statement discussing your career goals, and specifically how the Sustainability Certificate will help you meet your career and educational objectives.

Your essay should address:

• How have your unique background, life experiences, or educational or career path motivated your pursuit of the Sustainability Certificate?
• How will the knowledge gained from the Sustainability Certificate aid you in meeting sustainability challenges or in having a greater impact in your community or current role?
• How will the Sustainability Certificate help you to advance your education or career?

Your essay should be around two double-spaced pages in length.

How have your life experiences, including its opportunities and challenges, motivated your decision to pursue a graduate certificate at the University of Michigan?

For example, if you grew up in a community where educational opportunities were either especially plentiful or especially lacking, you might discuss the impact this had on your development, interests, and experiences. This statement should be a discussion of the journey that has led to your decision to seek a graduate certificate.
