State of the Strait Report highlights urgent need to clean up Detroit River

The 2023 State of the Strait Report, “The Contaminated Sediment Remediation Challenge: Complicated Problems that Require Interdisciplinary and Creative Solutions,” is now available. The report, co-authored by two SEAS community members, calls for “urgency” in cleaning up toxic sediment on the bottom of the Detroit River.

SEAS alumna shares sustainability practices with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau

Landscape designer Becca Robinson (MLA ’09) has met with hundreds of homeowners to help them identify ways they can reduce their environmental footprint and make their homes and landscapes more sustainable. Recently, the SEAS graduate and her colleagues had the opportunity to share those same tips with none other than Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

The year 2022 was a tough year around the world in terms of climate disaster, something that the just exploded “bomb cyclone” seemed to punctuate with an exclamation point as the storm crippled much of the nation in a sub-zero deep freeze and led to the death of at least 40 people in western New York.

Many studies have shown that eating a plant-based diet can be more environmentally friendly than traditional meat-based diets. Here at SEAS, many students partake in eating plant-based diets for sustainability, health and/or ethical reasons. Whether you are a hardcore vegan or just looking to add more plant-based meals to your diet, there are many plant-based options on and around the Ann Arbor campus that have delicious vegetarian and vegan options for students.
