Disentangling the complex effects of climate change on forest ecosystems
Working Group Goals
Multiple simultaneous climate change stressors affect forest productivity and tree survival. Increasing atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration enhances forest productivity, while droughts have the opposite effect reducing tree growth and even causing widespread mortality. This working group employs an interdisciplinary approach to examine forest demographic responses to the combined effects of these stressors for temperate forests. Our work will facilitate the development of vegetative models that inform decisions on climate change mitigation and conservation management practices.
